Your vaginal discharge is like your body’s built-in health update.

It keeps things clean and balanced, and gives you early signals when something’s off.
Let’s break it down 👇
🔹 Clear / White — Totally Normal
Thin, clear, or milky white discharge = your body doing its job.
Around ovulation, it turns stretchy, slippery, egg-white like — a sign your fertility is at its peak.
It’s made of water, cervical mucus, and lactobacilli (good bacteria that keep your vaginal pH healthy).
No smell + no discomfort = all good.
🟡 Yellow or Green — Pay Attention
Light yellow? Sometimes just sweat, dehydration, or diet.
But thick yellow-green discharge with a bad smell is a red flag 🚩
It may signal infections like:
- Trichomoniasis
- Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)
If there’s itching, burning, or odour → see your doctor.
⚪️➡️⚫️ Grey — BV Alert
Greyish discharge + a strong fishy smell is classic Bacterial Vaginosis.
It happens when the vaginal bacteria get out of balance.
Often smells stronger after intercourse.
🌸 Pink / Brown — Usually Normal, Sometimes Not
This often shows up:
- before or after your period
- after sex (tiny cervical bleeding is common)
But persistent pink or brown discharge can also mean:
- cervical polyps
- cervical irritation/erosion
- Rarely, malignancies
👉 Never ignore repeated blood-stained discharge.
🔴 Red or Bloody — Depends on Timing
During your period? Normal.
Outside your cycle? Might be due to:
- hormonal changes
- contraceptive side effects
- cervical polyps
- Rarely, genital malignancies
Unexplained bleeding = check-up time.
🤍 Thick, White & Clumpy — Yeast Infection
If your discharge looks like cottage cheese, think Candida.
Common symptoms:
- intense itching
- irritation
- burning during sex or urination
Easily treatable — but don’t ignore it.

⚠️ When to See a Gynaecologist
If your discharge:
- Suddenly changes colour
- smells unusual
- comes with itching, burning, pelvic pain, or bleeding
👉 Your vagina is sending you a message. Listen to it.
